The markets, an image of Provence Identity
Markets in Provence are always full of life. You will stroll along the lanes, with their colours and fragrances of the south.
You will find local products, olive oil, honey, delicacies, vegetables, aromatic plants, with their pleasant smells, local crafts...
Near Le Clos Chantebise :
Valréas, on Wednesday mornings.
Vaison-la-Romaine : every Tuesday morning, up to 450 traders come to the market.
Nyons : on Thursday morning, the traditional market with its displays of fruit, vegetables, flowers, delicacies. From June to September, the market on Sunday mornings is devoted more to Provence products.
Grignan : in July and August, the night market, with people wearing costumes, from 7 pm. to 1 am. It will be possible for you to hire a costume, and walk among the traders and their goods.
Richerenches : The most important truffle market in Europe, every Saturday morning, from mid-November to mid-March in the village. From 9 am. to 1 pm., truffle dealers, buyers and tourist meet on the market place.
A stay at Le Clos Chantebise will also be an opportunity for you to visit the vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône.
It will be possible for you to taste wines which make the region famous.
From mid november to mid march, the Enclave is famous for its truffles. During that time, Richerenches, 4 kilometers, 5 minutes from Le Clos Chantebise, is the place for a famous truffle market, where it will be possible for you to stroll, and watch both producers and traders. Over 50 percent of the production of the South-East is traded in Richerenches. It represents 30 percent of the production of the country.
It will be possible for you to enjoy this precious fungus in an omelette during local feasts.
Some produccers will accept your compagny, when harvesting truffles, in their fields.
the olive tree
Nyons is famous for its olive production. Ilt wil be possible for you to walk along the paths of the olive trees, a 4 kilometers' walk, in the countryside.
The best-known olive is "la tanche", fleshy and slightly wrinkled, at the beginning of Winter.
The black olive of Nyons harvested between December and January. it is harvested when ripe. The biggest ones are meant to be eaten. Olive oil is extracted from smaller olives.
